Our Leadership

Pastor Jim Owens, Minister of Outreach and Evangelism

Pastor Jim was saved in January 1974 during his junior year of college.  His preaching career started three months later when he got permission to open up the old, unused chapel and began holding services. He was appointed the chaplain his senior year. 

After marrying his lovely wife, Kathy, on May 31, 1975, his first paid ministry was as waterfront director at  Camp Bayouca in NY. He then was the youth director at First Baptist in Randolph, NY.  He then moved to Grand Rapids and got his Master’s of Divinity. He did pulpit supply, interim pastorates, and conference preaching. After graduation, he pastored Belmont Baptist Church near Grand Rapids, MI, then moved to Murray, KY to work on his doctorate, and served as Minister of Evangelism at Eastwood Baptist Church. He then returned back to Cortland, NY where he served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Harford, NY for 24 years. He moved to Cheraw in February 2022, served as interim pastor for a time, and became Minister of Outreach and Evangelism in May 2025.

Our Deacons

Brandon Turner

Brandon grew up in Cheraw and has lived here his entire life. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior when he was 12, and he has been actively involved in kids club, youth group, and Sunday school. Brandon and his wife Dorothy love serving the community and their church family.

Buddy Graham

Buddy grew up in Salem, VA where he met his lovely wife Dawn. He served as a deacon for several years in Roanoke, VA before moving with his wife and 3 daughters to Cheraw. Buddy and Dawn have been members of the Calvary Baptist family since 2000.

*Buddy and Dawn also serve as Church Staff Custodians

Daniel Biester

Daniel was born in Bolivia as a missionary kid and accepted Jesus at the age of 6. He served with MAF as a pilot in E. Africa and PMA. In 2006, Daniel and his wife Christina moved to Chesterfield, SC and joined Calvary Baptist. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. They also serve on the board of Cutting Edge Foundation that supports the hospital in Guinebor, Chad.

Chris Bridges

Chris is from Asheboro, NC and accepted Jesus when he was 9 years old. He has been apart of Calvary Baptist since 1994. Chris and his wife Lisa have raised 3 children in Cheraw. The Bridges love sharing the gospel with others, and they are involved in music and teaching at Calvary Baptist.
